The Weather Report is a larp about finding connection with meaningful people when your images of the world and ideologies are completely different. Is there still love when the only thing you can safely discuss without crossing the boundary of a heated argument is talking about the Weather? Maybe also food, but this is already a slippery road.
The game unfolds in three acts, over three days of a family gathering in a country house with a garden. Players embody members of a large family entangled in secrets. Everyone knows something about someone else and wants to bring it up, while at the same time working hard to keep their own sensitive topics hidden.
The larp looks into how we create scripts for certain avoidance behaviours, questions them and hopefully inspires looking for love in things that don’t contain it.
Time: 4 hours
Participants: 6-12
Topics: family, weather, climate anxiety, unresolved conflicts, trust, and hope
Mood: serious, but sometimes also comedic
Set-up: any room big enough for the group, chairs for everyone, a plant to put into the “garden” area
This larp was first playtested at zip space in Rotterdam, went to Stockholm Scenario Festival, Sickhouse in Enschede and took part in “Speak Easy” program by BARTALK in The Hague.
